(Migtsema is a hymn prayer to the Great Master Tsongkhapa)
General Introduction:
On the 30th December 2018, in the vicinity of the Mahabodhi Mahavihara in Bodhgaya-the Holy Land of Enlightenment – The Geluk International Foundation (GIF), under the leadership of His Holiness The 104th Gaden Tripa, Lobsang Tenzin, issued a proclamation to celebrate 2019 as International Year of Tsongkhapa.
2019 marks completion of 600 years since the parinirvana (passing away) of Great Master Tsongkhapa, a Tibetan Mahapandita, celebrated buddhist practitioner, visionary religious leader, and founder of the Geluk Tradition. He passed away on the 25th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, in 1419.
To commemorate the great legacy and incomparable contributions made by this great master to the Buddha Dharma, The headquarters of global Geluk community, the Geluk International Foundation, is organizing many activities. It is a great and rare opportunity to each and for all to accumulate merit by engaging in spiritual practices to commemorate the great master.
The great master Tsongkhapa was an incomparable scholar and practitioner. He is known as the combined emanation of Avalokitesvara, Manjushri and Vajrapani, and the crown jewel of scholars of Tibet. His thorough, clear, profound, comprehensive and eloquent explanation of Buddha’s words caused the emergence of a new school of thought in Tibet in the fifteenth century. Consequently, he became well known as the founder of the Geluk (Virtuous) tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
Specially in this year, worldwide followers of Tsongkhapa should recall his precious legacy, pay homage to him with supplications while putting effort into fulfilling his wishes by training well in the legacy he left for us in the form of his great books. Accumulating merits through recitation of the special Migtsema hymn, with a pure intention and virtuous motive, will be a simple way to commemorate the great scholar saint.
